Once you have made the decision you want to be a physical therapy assistant, your next step is going to be finding a school to complete your required education through. This will take careful planning and execution. One of the first things you will realize when you are searching for a school or program to become a physical therapy assistant is that you have a choice. You can either attend a program or school or, you can take classes through an online physical therapy assistant program. Once you understand there are two options, the next thing to do is compare the schools and weigh the benefits versus the drawbacks.
It does not matter if you select a campus school or an online program. You need to make sure the school you want to attend is an accredited school or you will be wasting your time and money. If you choose a school that is not recognized by the accredited schools list, you may find that you are unable to get a job even after you have paid for an education and took the time to complete your classes. Although a problem with schools credentials is more likely to happen with an online physical therapy assistant program, they do also happen with campus classes or schools also. Do not make the common mistake of thinking a school must be accredited just because you attend classes on a campus. Deceit was not created with the internet. The internet just gave the dishonest people a new way to show their deceit.
If you check and make sure a program is accredited, you should proceed to go over the class requirements. This is particularly true if you are taking online classes. Some of the online classes for physical therapy assistant programs do not offer the required clinical portion of the required study. If this is the case, you need to find out if your school arranges clinical study with a nearby campus or if you have to do so yourself. Be sure that you meet all your requirements prior to finishing your course work or your graduation and your certificate may be delayed.
