Applying for a Physical Therapy Assistant Program

5 May 2010 2 Comments

When you are ready to start school to become a Physical Therapy Assistant, you need to select a program to enroll in for the schooling required. Each individual program has a different process and different requirements. However; there are some generalizations you should follow.

You need to organize yourself and the information schools look for prior to completing the actual application. If you are disorganized, your application will reflect your disorganization and the school may not be as willing to accept you into their program. You will need; you SAT and or your ACT scores, any college transcripts( if you have attended college elsewhere), Verification of volunteer/job in the

field, Current grades if you are enrolled in the pre-requisite courses, and a minimum of three- five personal references.

A special note about the references, in addition to any forms for references the program you wish to attend has, have your reference also include a self addressed stamped envelope in the event the school wants to contact them. It simply shows your references willingness to be contacted. Once you have all these items organized, then it is time to apply to the given Physical Therapy Assistant programs you wish to enter. Be sure to find out the deadline for new applications along with the fees associated with applying.

Once you know the fees, have the application and the supporting documentation, then you are ready to submit your application. Be sure to give yourself enough time for the application to be received. If you are mailing your application, it is advisable to do so 3-5 weeks prior to the deadline for applications or earlier. Accidents do happen and mail can be misplaced or arrive late.

If you have not met all the requirements or the pre-requisite classes, you need to do that prior to submitting an application to a Physical Therapy Assistant program. Without the required classes, you will not be eligible to be enrolled in the assistant program. Do not waste your time or the schools time by submitting an application when you do not qualify to be in the program. Meet the requirements first.

This article peaked my interest so I did a little research and found that some schools allow students to apply for the PTA program while they are working on their prerequisite courses. There is an application deadline prior to each program start and late applications may be considered only if there is space available. In doing my research I also found that all your information in this article that you stated regarding organization and submitting all the proper information is extremely important. Great article!
