What might seem as a nice and well populated massage parlor might not be like that at all. There is a dark side to massage therapy. There have been women who have been arrested for prostitution in these. Many want to know how these women go from good girls to being the bad girls that they are. Of those people who want to know, many cannot fathom why women will stoop to this level. The answers all vary. Some women will tell you that they did what they did due to the fact that they needed extra money. Some of the men that they worked on normally pay double the amount that they would normally make. Other women liked the way that they were a part of something. Some of the women actually developed a relationship of sorts with some of the men. Yet, other women feel that they were making a difference.
Every year, there are a ton of these massage parlors that are closed due to the fact that they are deemed as places where prostitution takes place. They lose a lot when this happens. What they have found is that there are a few trends with this. One of the trends is that these massage parlors are normally owned or worked by women of Asian descent. The theory behind this is this is something that is culturally acceptable in their home town. Many of them are working with visas which mean that they aren’t true citizens of the United States. When they are guilty of this charge, it really hurts a lot of people. Those women who are a charged with the prostitution do jail time. The business closes and in order for them to open it up again, it will take a nice amount of time for that to happen.
May people who live around the massage parlors in the past have been known to put up a fuss about those that eventually do open up again. If you think about it, it is demoralizing which is why prostitution is forbidden. There have been some that have created and had people sign petitions in order to get those places closed and closed for good. For many, this has been successful. For others though, it hasn’t been. It just depends on if they can get a good amount of signatures and so forth. The prostitution massage parlors actually started in Thailand. This area is very well known for having a number of these massage parlors around. Then, it just continued on to the United States as well as other areas. It’s an ever growing problem and many regulations are in place to ensure that when businesses open in terms of massage therapy spas, that is what they are doing and no sexual acts are rendered. To some extent, these regulations have been very successful.
Prostitution is a multi-million dollar business and massage seems to be one of the easiest and most common ways to cover up the operations of prostitution rings. The lack of distinction between bodywork (massage) and prostitution causes alot of suffering to the public as well as massage therapists. More people are experiencing the health benefits that come with receiving regular massage. I think professional massage therapists should do everything possible to create a distinction for themselves. I’m not quite sure how this can be done but one way to start is by making the difference clear to the public eye.
